FAQ

                                        FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What tumbling skills do you need to have to make the CJH cheer team?
A: I require at least a SOLID BACK HANDSPRING on the hard floor.  Any other tumbling
skills like a standing tuck, whips, etc.. will give you a higher score from the judges.
Because we only perform on the hard gym floor at school, you are not allowed to do a
     tumbling Full for tryouts.

Q: Can I turn my portfolio in before the due date?
A: YES!!!  It is better to turn in your portfolio earlier than later.  It gives the judges and coach
time to look everything over. Late portfolios will NOT accepted so it is better to get it in
     early.

Q: How much time does it take to be a CJH Cheerleader?
A: Being a CJH Cheerleader takes A LOT of time and work but is very rewarding and fun.
We start right after tryouts and continue all the way through until the last day of school
the following year. We attend EVERY athletic game which take place 2 times a week and
typically do not get home until around 5:30 pm those nights.  Plus many early mornings
    and extra practices.

Q: What GPA do you need to have to be on the team?
A: Centennial requires you to have a minimum of 3.0 for ALL 3 terms before tryouts.
See Eligibility tab for more information.

Q: If I am going to be gone during cheer Camp in July can I still tryout?
A: Unfortunately, Cheer camp in July is MANDATORY and you cannot miss those days.
If you have an issue with these days, please contact Coach Greenland BEFORE tryouts.

Q: How many girls are you looking to have on your team?
A: I do not have a set number but it is typically between 14-20 girls

Q: Do you practice during the summer?
A: Yes, we practice at least 3 times a week during all of June, 2 weeks in July and all of
     August.

Q: What is the role of a CJH Cheerleader?
A: Centennial Cheerleaders play a vital role in creating school spirit and support to our school
and to all of our athletic programs.  We attend EVERY athletic sporting event and perform
at all half-times during boys and girls basketball home games.
CJH Cheerleaders are leaders in and for our school and need to set a Great example at
all times for the student body and visitors. I hold my cheerleaders to the highest
    standard.

Q: How much does it cost to be a CJH Cheerleader?
A: Per Davis School District, the allowable charge for cheerleading is $875.00 for the year.
This fee covers everything you will need for the year including, Full cheer uniform, jacket,
cheer bag, bows, poms, shoes, and camp/spirit wear plus cheer camp.

Q: Can you participate in other extra-curricular activities like competition teams or
studio dance while being on the CJH Cheer Team?
A: CJH cheer MUST come first beside family and school. If you decide to be a part of
another competition team or studio dance, they cannot conflict with CJH cheer and
you cannot miss cheer for those activities.

Q: If I make CJH Cheer, can I be on another sports team at the school?
A: Unfortunately No. It is not fair to the rest of the cheer team if you are missing routines
and practice to participate in another sport. If you have further questions or this,
    please contact Coach Greenland.

Q: Are there judges at tryouts?
A: Yes.  You will be judged by 3-5 independent judges. Coach Greenland is NOT a judge and
    does NOT pick the team!

Q: When is the best time to take off during the summer?
A: We practice every week starting in June.  Typically, the first week we are out of school,
I try and give the girls a week off but that is depending on other factors.  We will
practice at least 3 times a week for the rest of June, 2 weeks in July and then all of
     August.
The week of camp in July is MANDATORY and cannot be missed.  August is vital for
practice as we are preparing for our Welcome Back assembly and games.  Best time to
take off would be the first week of June or the 2 weeks in July.

Q: Do you have a cheer class during the school year?
A: YES! We have our cheer class 8th period during first semester.  Second semester cheer
class will be determined by Administration and Coach.

Q: Can incoming 7th Graders tryout for CJH Cheer?
A: Unfortunately No. CJH Cheer squad is made up of incoming 8th and 9th graders only!
